Well, we are now at 3 weeks till delivery date, or at least according to the delivery dial. November 26th is the date that was given at the doctors appointment this week.

The house is pretty close to being done, although we still have some small stuff to do.

I think the biggest bit of curiousity I have is how is my 4 year old daughter going to handle it all?

More in a week….

Well, we are now under a month until the baby is due. November 25th to be as exact as the doctor could tell us.

Did I mention previously that it is going to be a boy? Long story as to how we found out….

All has been fairly typical as of late. The bland diet has helped calm any gall bladder issues my wife was having, and for the most part she has been OK.

The baby is kicking a lot, and seems to continually kick either her bladder or her ovaries or some other internal organ. Much like with the 1st pregnancy, she is up 2 times a night to pee.

But, other than that, all is good.

(And I do write all of this knowing that I’ve got the easier side of this process )

We had a bit of a hiccup this weekend from a diet standpoint (she ate some food that she probably shouldn’t have), and has been in recovery mode since then. I think she is averaging 3-4 hours of sleep a night, and is typically waking up at 3:00 AM in pain.

I keep trying to get her to eat as bland food as possible, and have been trying to get her to try to sleep at 9:00. Her frustraiton is setting in.

Maybe my expectation of remedying this via diet and sleep is wishful thinking, but that’s about all I can do at the moment.

I had detailed a while back the story of a friend of mine who had a very bad reaction to the InVitro process and then the next month got pregnant via natural methods.

Well, she and my wife had nearly identical due dates - end of November. However, the actual delivery dates are going to be very different. My wife is still on par for end of November, but my friend went a bit early a lot early, delivering her daughter at the beginning of August.

She was born at around 450 grams and was given approximately a 28% chance of survival. But, here I write at the middle of September and her daughter continues to do as well as possible. She has more than doubled in weight, she continues to take food, has responded well to the surgeries that she has undergone (including a surgery to close the hole in her heart) and all things considered is doing as well as possible.

I’m not much of a religious person, but this is probably as close to a miracle as there is.

It apparently distributes pain when it isn’t working right, too.

My wife and I spent the night in L&D on Wednesday/Thursday. She finally waived the white flag to the pain that she was feeling on the right hand side of her stomach. She had been in previously for the same problem, and they prescribed her some Norco for the pain and chalked it (potentially) to a gall bladder issue.

They ran her through a full ultrasound (I got to see the little guy and his not so little guy), but nothing came up conclusive. We finally got to talk with a surgeon, and he he concluded that her gall bladder isn’t emptying completly, which is what is leading to the pain.

So, she has to monitor her diet closely, take pain meds as needed and possibly have it addressed after SpicyBaby (which is the name my daughter has given to her in-utero brother) arrives.

In the interim, I just hope that she can avoid nights like she had this week. Lack of sleep and lots of pain doesn’t do a pregnant woman very good.

So…it’s been a few months since I last wrote, but more for good reasons than anything else - things have been going well on both the home front and the baby front.

We now know that we are having a boy, although the cirstumstances by which we know that are a bit shady - My wife (who is a nurse) went from being an employee of the hospital where she works to being a patient. She started having really bad abdominal pains and the doc on duty decided it would be wise to admit her.

So - after a barrage of tests, they determined that it was a gall bladder issue. However, while doing the tests my wife was asked if she wanted to know what the sex of the baby was (since the doc could see it.). Well, she was tired, in pain, maybe drugged up a bit and just wanted to know.

I walked into the ER at around 2AM to pick her up (since she couldn’t drive because of the meds) and the 1st word out of the docs mouth were “so, you going to tell him?”. I knew right away.

Oh well. At least it wasn’t bad news.

Related to this - she has been having more gall bladder attacks. We have had miserable nights of sleep over the last few nights because the pain keeps waking her up. Hopefully tonight is better.

I hope all is well out there. More as news warrants….
